Buhari Highlights His Plans Ahead Of US Visit
President Buhari, ahead of his visit to President Obama today, wrote an article for The Washington Post which he titled ‘ Nigeria Committed To Good Governance And Fighting Terror’.
In the post, he highlighted what he has done so far, his plans
on how he will combat insurgency and corruption in Nigeria. He also
affirmed that his Ministers will be appointed in September. Read the

This month, the world moved a step closer to the defeat of Boko Haram, the jihadist group that has terrorized hundreds of thousands in the northern states of Nigeria. In one of my first acts since taking office as president six weeks ago, I have replaced the heads of Nigeria’s army, navy and air force. Our new military leadership has not been chosen because of their familiarity with those in government, as was too often the case in the past, but on their track records and qualifications alone.
These new military leaders will be based in Borno State in northern Nigeria, where the headquarters of the armed services has been relocated. This shift of resources and command directly to the front line, in addition to the replacement of the head of the State Security Service, Nigeria’s intelligence organization, and a new emphasis on working in partnership with our neighbors, has equipped us to take the fight directly to Boko Haram.

Wike Didn’t Meet Me During His Visits – CJN
One of his visits to the CJN coincided with the day the Rivers
state governorship election petitions tribunal conducted hearing in an
application filed by Wike to challenge an order permitting his opponent
to inspect the electoral materials used for the poll that brought him to
office.
However, the CJN has confirmed Governor Wike’s visits. Punch reports that the CJN made it known through a statement by his media aide earlier today that although the governor visited him twice this month, he met his absence.
The statement reads in part: “Our attention has been drawn to insinuations in some dailies that the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike had met with the Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon Justice Mahmud Mohammed, GCON, during one of his visits to the office of the CJN on July 6 and July 8 this year
However, the CJN has confirmed Governor Wike’s visits. Punch reports that the CJN made it known through a statement by his media aide earlier today that although the governor visited him twice this month, he met his absence.
The statement reads in part: “Our attention has been drawn to insinuations in some dailies that the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike had met with the Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon Justice Mahmud Mohammed, GCON, during one of his visits to the office of the CJN on July 6 and July 8 this year
“However, we would not have ordinarily wished to react to
such stories except for the misinformation and the erroneous impression
it may cast in the mind of the public. We wish to state with all
emphasis that the CJN at no time had an audience with Governor Wike.
This include before, on and after the said date.
“For further clarification, during the week of the purported first visit by the Governor Wike on July 6, 2015, his Lordship was away in Saudi Arabia performing Umrah. On the date of the alleged second visit, which was on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, the CJN was in court observing the interview of shortlisted applicants for the award of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
“A senior official in the CJN chamber intercepted Governor Wike and advised that it was a policy of the CJN not to entertain visits of politicians especially those with cases in the courts.
“Consequently, Governor Wike left at that point, even though he tried to state reasons for his visit which included the issue of the appointment of substantive Chief Judge for his state and to thank the CJN for sending the Bayelsa State Chief Judge to swear him into the office.
“In fact, his Lordship was not even aware of the visit until the next morning. The CJN therefore did not see the Governor as reported in the said dailies.”
Recall that Chief Olisa Metuh from PDP had reacted to the news, saying there was nothing wrong with the visits. He also stated that the governor had the right to pay official visit to the CJN, adding that Wike should not be vilified because of that.

Show Of Shame: Pastors, Church Members Fight In Church
The Enugu state police command has locked up the Mount Street Parish of Assemblies of God Church, Nigeria after two pastors and their loyalists engaged in a free-for-all fight.
The two pastors and their supporters fought over who should take control of the parish.
Apparently there has been an ongoing crisis in the church for more than three years as two persons, Professor Paul Emeka and Dr. Chidi Okoroafor are each laying claims to the leadership of the church, a position known as General Superintendent, a matter that is currently before the Supreme Court, Vanguard reports.
The drama was said to have started on Sunday, July 19, when one of the pastors, Rev. Nathaniel Udeze, came with letters of posting and other court documents as part of preparations to be installed as the new pastor at the parish.
According to him, he had been officially posted there by the
leadership of the church under Rev. Paul Emeka, adding that Rev. Amaechi
Agbo had been transferred to another parish since May 2015.
He was however resisted by Rev, Agbo and his supporters, who
accused him of being an intruder and vowed not to allow him take over.
The trouble degenerated when supporters of both pastors arrived and started sharing different versions of Sunday school manual in preparation for the main service.
Both pastors threw caution to the wind and reportedly started shoving each other and their supporters followed suit, engaging in fisticuffs.

The police had to be called to restore order. On arrival, the
divisional police officer, Dennis Ayara tried to calm the warring
parties but all his efforts to bring the situation under control proved
futile.
The led to the eventual shutdown of the church premises as the
police cordoned off the place and put it under lock, while the leaders
of the two factions were asked to report to the station.
